K-Kids Club Delivers Thanksgiving Decorations
by Bruce Malkin
On November 19, a dozen Kiwanis K-Kids from the Stratford Landing Elementary School club visited Paul Spring Retirement Community on Fort Hunt Road to give each resident a home-made Thanksgiving turkey decoration. The seniors were delighted with the opportunity to talk to the children as well as to receive their thoughtful presents. This project was planned and implemented by the K-Kids Club members themselves with a little help from some of their parents and Faculty Adviser, and this is the second year they have done a special visit with gifts to Paul Spring Retirement Community at the holiday season.
The K-kids at Stratford Landing Elementary are sponsored by the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club, which also sponsors student community service clubs at Mount Vernon High School, West Potomac High School, South County Secondary, Hayfield Secondary and the Northern Virginia Community College (Alexandria campus). Next to be chartered will be Carl Sandburg Middle School in 2011. If you are interested in a Kiwanis community service club in your chid's school, contact MVKC Past President Bruce Malkin at brucemalkin1@gmail.com.
